I can see why people would do it if they already have points in their account and it does take a bit of time to build up the ingame credits. They want us to do keep doing it repeatedly though, as long as its a one off thing its okay.

I have to disagree. I feel inclined to believe they are employing this as a variation of a free-to-play model. Think about it this way: instead of free DLC, consider it several new items in the store that you can earn credits for or purchase credits for.

Is it? If everyone who bought the game in the first week alone does it once, and each pack is what... 2 bucks? That's 7 million dollars from a micro transaction, that literally cost their company $0 in overhead fees. It cost them nothing, and we gave them 7m for it already? Assuming everyone did one, and no one bought 2. Imagine the 12 year olds in the world with their dad's credit cards. The college students sitting on dad covering tuition. Hundreds of thousands of people who could just sit and buy hundreds of packs at no detriment to themselves.

    This is a problem.

I think from here, people just need to make more educated decision about what kind of transactions they make. Especially with games and any kind of DLC or micro-transactions. Its just simply not just to make people cut their desire to buy them but to think really hard before doing that too. Course, I'm speaking of myself spending a good amount on F2P franchises, so I'm guilty as charged as well.

The micro-transaction conversation is a good one. We also have Diablo 3 coming out that is looking at changing a bit of the economics of gaming. Interesting experiments, I think what we need to really watch for is business practices that exploit people acting as irrational actors (as opposed to the rational actors). That is what is so disturbing about the EA video, it is about getting a person when he/she is seeking endorphins and creating a money barrier at the best possible point, because then that person will shell out the money without thinking about the economic concern, because small purchases don't raise the same alarm bells.

That's actually quite mildly insulting, in a 'taking-a-stab-at-someone' kind of way. :(

    Not happy jan!
