Honestly? I think that the beacon was something that had passed from normal Asari memory over the course of the centuries, Asari longevity aside. To say that it was used, at least at the time of the Mass Effect series, as a proverbial leg up on the evolutionary process isn't quite fair.

Don't get me wrong: Much as I know that the industrial military organization supported Cerberus, I also believe that the ruling caste(?) or class on Thessia probably knew it was there, or at the very least, that the acolytes in the Temple probably knew it was there.

Does the statute of limitations apply to "keeping Prothean relics" after thousands of years? I don't know.

My thoughts: The Protheans gave the Asari technology because they saw potential in the in the species, but the Protheans died off leaving the Asari to their own devices. The Asari, being less evolved at the time, attributed the technology given to a god and part of their religion. I doubt they knew just exactly what it was. Centuries pass and someone must have found out that it was a beacon, probably after the law about Prothean technology was made. That’s why I think only top ranking Asari knew about it, and why Liara was so upset when she found out the truth. Can I really blame the Asari for hiding it? No.

There's been some extensive Liara bashing around the whole argument she has with Javik. I have to side with Liara, both practically and theoretically, but damn, le hate.

Not to mention that she found out that her people’s religious and cultural beliefs were completely false. To make matters worse the people behind the Goddess were the Protheans, which Liara just recently found out were pompous assholes (IMO). Javik also could have been a little less harsh, if you ask me. :D

Agreed. Javik went too far. Way too far. I'm not saying Liara was being the most sensible person ever in that particular moment... but I really can't blame her for being upset.
