Okay, I want to get a discussion going about strategy games. What sorts of games do you like? Real-time strategy? Turn-based? Let's hear it, and see what we can learn from each other! :)

I like any and all strategy games to be honest. Different ones for different moods.

Sid Meier's Civilization III, IV and Alpha Centauri I positively LOVE. As well as Hearts of Iron, which is real-time, I think, since the hours keep ticking by unless you press pause. I just like the challenge, and having to think critically. Plan out my moves, rather then "live in the moment". Also great lessons for life a bit there too, planning things out a bit.

I usually prefer turn-based 4X strategy games...it started of course with the first Civilization game and then went with games like Master of Orion 1 & 2 and Master of Magic (I still play them from time to time in my DOSBox). I love it to start with one small city then starting to explore and expand...and in the end trying to take over the world :D

RTS isn't so much my cup of tea (My reaction time is too slow sometimes for it *lol*) but I enjoyed the early Command & Conquer and Warcraft games. And I liked the Anno series, just watching my cities growing and keeping the citizens happy.

But my all-time favourite strategy game is UFO: Enemy Unknown (the first X-Com game from 1994): it has 4X elements, a tactical squad-based combat system, RPG elements, a simple but nice story...a perfect mix in my opinion :)

I've played strategy games and l like them. For example, I have Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and its expansion pack, Clone Campaigns. I do have Command and Conquer: The First Decade, Civilization V, and Star Wars: Empire at War along with it's expansion Forces of Corruption. I also have Starcraft 2, StarCraft set with both StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War, and Blitzkrieg.

I'm surprised how many people I've seen mentioning turn-based games. I had thought RTS's were the more popular variant?

I tend to prefer turn-based myself (like Nachtdämmerung, my reaction time is kinda slow), but I have enjoyed some real-time strategy games. Anyone who's a fan of Starcraft would recognize my Avatar as Kerrigan :p

Anyone looking forward to Company of Heroes 2? I am, since it deals with the Eastern Front of World War II, which I happen to be interested in. It doesn't come out until 2013 though.

Actually, I am. I still play the first one from time to time, which reminds me, it's time for a re-install on the PC.

It's funny you mention that. I got the Civ V expansion Gods & Kings last night. I named my first religion "Prothean". :ROFLMAO:

Aww come on now, we all know they are the "Endkidlers" I mean everyone loves Blasto and he'd not have such awesome lines as "Enkindle this" if wasn't the endkidlers. Still, I'm interested to hear how they pray.

:( As soon as I get it (I'm waiting for more info as to how good it is atm) I'm naming my religion "The Enkindlers" just because.
