Have you noticed how they tried to portray the 'flip side' of the various races of the Mass Effect galaxy in ME3? The krogan have been seen mostly as brutes and a 'warrior people', but you meet Eve/Bakara and on Tuchanka you see that area of ancient krogan ruins with art, unique architecture, even some actual plants that have managed to survive.

Then there are the Council races. The turians planted a giant bomb on Tuchanka after the Krogan Rebellions. The salarians are constantly abducting species and experimenting on them to advance their own interests. The asari withheld an important piece of Prothean technology while enforcing laws that punish others that do the same thing.

Then the quarians and geth. The quarians sought to eradicate the geth at the first sign of self-awareness, but now you see that there were quarians who openly opposed it. The 'true' geth, who were portrayed as the 'good guys' in ME2, resort to accepting enslavement by the Reapers even though they opposed them in the past; even Legion suddenly decides to implant Reaper code in all the geth despite opposing it in ME2 due to the geth not having 'earned' the technology.

Personally, I think they executed this brilliantly especially since it delved into the very grey areas of each of the races, I was particularly shocked at the bomb revelation on Tuchanka and at the Asari hypocrisy who have previously been portrayed generally as the most sophisticated and moralistic of the other races. The whole Quarian/Geth saga is constantly changing where your being swayed from one side to the next and where you actually start to sympathize with the Geth or the "blinkie flashlights" as Ashley calls them, who before ME2 where just a seemingly endless army of gun-fodder, at least to me anyways.

    Good points, all.

    Also to add:

Batarians can be honorable warriors and decent folk when freed from the Hegemony's laws. EDI even remarks on it a few times. See that preacher in the refugee camp?

Voluses (volii?) can be militaristic (see Kwunu) or pragmatic (see Mr. Elkoss), but either way they're always hedging against everything (see Zaeed's mission).

Hanar can go beyond troll logic in their faith (as seen by the "Big Stupid Jellyfish" quest).

Quarians can be rude and xenophobic ("My father would have HATED you" and, of course, "Someone got their Induction Filter popped on their Pilgrimage?") like humans are, they're not the detached rulers-by-consensus we've been told they are. We saw outlines of this in Tali's Trial in ME2, but it really comes to light in how Han'Gerrel effectively affects the entire fleet's policy with his warmongering.

    Etc, etc.

I really liked the contrasts in the Tuchanka arc, Wrex or Wreav, Maelons data saved or not.

I was actually shocked at some of the events that happen in the paths i never take, such as betraying Wrex and Mordin and Tali's shocking outcome where really hard to watch on youtube. Some make me wonder why people chose to do those things. One minor one but that was hard to watch for me was saying no to Liara's offer. :(

I will note that whether this was intentional or not, they had planted the seeds for both of the "Council Race" revelations in previous games (not specifics, but the nature of them). The Codex entries show the Turians as nearly as vicious as the Krogans during the Rebellion, and as for the Asari..... I haven' trusted them as far as I could throw them (though I admit part of that is based on the fact that to me they will always be borderline-hilarious fan service.... sorry Liara).

It showed that no race is perfect, and all are capable of horrible actions, not just the "primitive" low status species.
