I had this idea for a little while that, whilst complex, I think could be quite interesting. The idea here is that you build a Mass Effect RTS, which personally I'd love to see as a Company of Heroes/Star Wars Empire at War/Total War blend - essentially ground tactical combat is like Company of Heroes, a great RTS with wonderful gameplay mechanics, which I think would suit the Mass Effect series very well. You could then have Star Wars Empire at War style space movement which is very Mass Effect-y, combined with the detailed development options found in the Total War game series.

Anyway the important point here is the save game importing. Part of the story mode for this game could involve the Reaper War where the object is not to win, but to deliver essential material to the construction site of the Crucible whilst preventing Reaper or Cerberus forces from attacking it. You can also use space and ground forces to liberate planets, make feint attacks to draw off enemy forces etc - essentially delay them until the project is complete. At some point though Shepards decisions would impact on your forces, the best example of which would be the resolution of the Tuchunka arc. At that point in the game, you gain either Krogan ground forces or Salarian space forces. If Shepard is a paragon (or at least mostly) and kept Kirrahe alive, then if you save the Krogan you also gain STG forces and light Salarian ships, but miss out on stealth dreadnoughts. The same applies to the Geth/Quarian conflict - as the game progresses to that point, you gain access to various forces based on what your Shepard does in ME3.

    Thoughts?

Awesome idea. Taking the meta to a new level. AFAIK, there were like, two or three games with that sort of cross-genre integration done on a cross-game basis. Not a fan of modern-style RTSes myself, but I can easily see this turning a good profit if such a game had been made available on ME3's release. Sadly, after the ending fiasco, it's probably a no-sell both for publishers and fans alike.

I LOVE RTS games. If one was made for mass effect, and was actually done right with some depth in skill trees and what not I would definitely be interested. As long as it isn't one of those ones were you really only just control squads of units. Gotta have one were you build buldings, mine resources, improve tech trees, train units, etc etc.

However, since me3 any and all products by them I will probably not want to get involved with sadly :/

I often imagined such a item, perhaps not quiet as mixing with the main game just to save time and resources that could be better spent on actually making the RTS but the concept of a Mass Effect Based Space RTS/Ground RTS hybrid was a often wished for dream.

Now however with the franchise how it is, and the limited room for expansion, I don't see it happening.

If they made it like warcraft 3 or empire earth (first one) or the older age of empires... Id def be interested.

It's true that the ending farce would hinder such a game, but you certainly don't have to limit it to the Reaper War - you could have (and alter) various sides so that you play as the Asari/Salarians/Krogan fighting the Rachni War; the Asari/Salarians/Turians fighting the Krogan Rebellion; as the Alliance fighting the First Contact War; fighting Batarians in the Attican Traverse etc. Hell you could even fully develop a Prothean faction with the end goal of conquering the galaxy in their cycle. Actually that could be pretty cool...

True, it doesn't have to be just the reaper war, issue is however in making a cohesive plot that spans like 1500-3000 years avoiding that jump in time period crap everyone dislikes. I imagine it as a 3D space RTS in the vein of homeworld, with it just being set in Mass Effect of course, as this would forfill a much needed need for a story driven, pure space RTS.

There aren't that many around, but a plot spanning nearly 3k years? Nah, I just don't see it happening.
