At certain times I wish we had a way for us to discuss things privately before a discsion is made. While things are hidden when your not signed up, you only have to sign up to see what is being discussed.

I personally like Teamspeak 3, Skype, and Ventrilo for discussing ideas and reaching consensus before posting a plan of action. Others can put in their input too on the forum, if the plan of action isn't going up to speed, or seems wrong.

The advantage of this would be that it would be secure for us having at least 5 minutes to discuss an idea, and forming stronger bonds with each other. The disadvantage of this would be not everyone is going to be present for the discussion as we are all on at very different times, and there would be a lot less posts on the forum. Then again, we are all individuals working for the same cause.

That and I just love a good chat with others.

The thing with community privacy, is its a very hard thing to achieve. Even with the upcoming update to groups to expand on moderated thread privacy. Someone could simply ask for an invite and get in. The same goes for a mumble, vent or teamspeak server.

At the moment, if someone has a discussion they really want to be private, simply create a group as private, copy in the thread using thread tools and invite only the people whom you wish to share the information with. We will work on providing other options after we complete features currently in progress. Hope this helps.

true dat. by excluding people we risk to be unfair: we could say "you'll get an invite after your 15th post" or something, but discriminating people only because they're new to HTL..? everyone who supports our cause has the right to join up right away. this is how we build consensus. so far we did not establish some kind of hierarchy because we're fully democratic. i personally would be able to entrust some of us with the responsibility to be our "higher ups" and discuss and organize some "bigger stuff", as long they respond to our feedback and don't work fully oligocratic - just in the way we would like BioWare to act. (i'm sorry, such things sound much better in my native language, but for thinking in kinda complex ways, its hard to translate my thoughts in a suitable way, but i think you get my point :) )

I really should change my post.

I have concluded that it is impossible to maintain a ts3 or Vent server with this amount of people and the issues of being unfair. I was looking into ideas for individuals to talk in private and to pointing out other ways to communicate more, for teams to operate effectively which can be on a local, national, or international level, because not everyone is going to be doing the same thing. If we've come up with an idea then it has to be posted on the forums to be presented enmasse for others to have their two cents in, and to be possibly used by others. Also, we may be on Mass Effect now, but eventually we will be moving onto another cause concerning 'gamer's rights'.

In conclusion, HTL does not need a ts3, or vent server. We do not need to share our Steam, Skype, or MSN info. But in the age of Social Media, the options to communicate are boundless, and I'm just pointing out a few of them for those who may not know and want to communicate with their team, or just want to talk.

Also, I would never suggest a Mumble bar. It is extremely.... Bleeeeeeeh.

I have a group here, for just this reason. Invites are open to all who want to join.

Other than that, Skype sounds great, as does a private IRC.

I'm not sure I for one see the point in this. For specific things like organized sub-campaigns, like say the billboard thing, sure a group to manage that would be ok. For general movement related stuff though it just divides the dialogue. I guess I just don't understand what yet even needs this level of secrecy, surely obfuscation isn't the goal here so I think it might wind up being a little counter productive at this particular point. Or at least that's what my moderately smallish experience in community management leads me to think, that or I'm missing something big here.

Openness and inclusivity is a strength not to be sacrificed for a false sense of security.
