Did the Allies walk away when France fell.....did the UK walk away when the Falklands fell...did the USA walk away when Pearl Harbour was bombed.....did the Spartans walk away when they lost at Thermoplye......this isn't just about ME3 this is about all games that are made and ever will be made. this fight needs to be fought cause if its not then the gaming world will collapse quicker than a drunken teenager on a friday night

Dont know what he is basing this opinion on. "Walk away" doesnt sound like "wait and see", which i would have expected from the wording of the rest of the article.

Yeah the article had more of a "wait and see" vibe to it. But he does have a point in that there's no reason to let your blood boil over ads like these. Just call the advertisers out on their bullshit and move on to the bigger issue at hand, BioWare's EC DLC.

The Falklands didnt fall did they? The argentines attacked and the british fought back - ultimately quelling the argentine tantrum.

Actually they fell then we went back in and kicked ass......hence why the Falklands have Liberation Day, which was last week i think. the point i was putting across is the people who stay and fight for a cause they believe in usually win at the end of the day.

Yeah I read that article and scratched my head. Seems silly to walk away at this point. The EC is coming, that's where we're at at the moment - waiting to see if it'll deliver or not. Walking away at this point makes no sense at all.

I took it to mean that we should walk away from fighting with advertisers. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. EA is going to spin this whatever way they can. In the end we just have to wait and see what the EC DLC will bring.

Ah ok, that would make more sense.

Ergh, but on the topic of media and the EC - you know the thing I'm looking forward to the very least? The inevitably venomous reaction from the 'gaming media'. IGN and Gamespot and Kotaku - I bet they're all strike up the band again and decry us all as entitled brats and the EC as the prequel to the gaming industry apocalypse. I am more than a little bit sick of getting called 'entitled', etc. by uninformed media outlets that receive advertising dollars from publishers.

Kotaku is weird. First of their writing generally sucks, but they actually seemed pretty split on the ME3 with some writers liking it and others not.

Also it's hard for me to dislike IGN and Gamespot when I never visit their sites or read their articles. I haven't for years now. They're just advertising mouth pieces for the industry. Once you recognize that you'll find yourself looking for better sites for video game REVIEWS (anyone getting a preview has an invested interest) and other news on the industry.

Very true. I try to avoid all three but on this issue, because everyone shares links, I couldn't help but run into their editorials. For my own sake, I should just ignore them/pretend they don't exist. The nonsense coming out of IGN especially, has made me want to tear my hair out.

Yeah, he was more or less saying that to fight against stupid ads is just not productive. The EC will be soon, there will be bigger fish to fry!

    A follow up article:
    http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...for-the-mass-effect-3-hold-the-line-movement/

Like I said folks, Eric Kain was just saying we should pick our fights. Raging against ads isn't worth the time. Call out their BS then move on.

That said I do like the notion that HTL is the "Zucotti Park" of the Retake ME movement. It's the reason I joined movement. As HTL transitions into general gamer advocacy it may be a good idea that we all keep in mind to be careful and pick the battles we choose to fight wisely.

I can see his point but getting riled up by e.g. an advertisement like Gamestop's recent one also has some benefits - it keeps momentum going and breaks up the days. In the absence of enemies an army will get fat :p This way we're staying sharp, honing our arguments and making it clear what our position is. The clearer our position the easier it will be to say 'this isn't wasn't what we were fighting for' if (when?) the EC comes out and doesn't address the majority of our issues. On the other hand, I guess it's possible that we could get burnt out by fighting every little fight though.
