Somewhat off topic but I just registered and felt the need to tell atghunter that he has been a force for good in regards to educating myself and in general making me feel good. Your posts have given me encouragement and have made me think of Ashley quoting Whitman, "Oh warden, my warden."...err....wait that's not right. :) I followed the original pr thread on BSN and was overjoyed after they removed it to find it resurrected here. (Its a sad state of affairs when an ending is so bad it makes a shy, awkward, quiet person like myself {even on the internet, I'm normally a lurker} rise up and cry for blood {not literally, I don't want anyone hurt :) } ). But thank you good sir, your a man among men. (As i get up and walk away from my computer humming "Wind Beneath My Wings" :) ).

So this is where some of you went. Greetings from the BSN front as it were. I'm so darn happy this thread is alive here, it's full of useful information and honestly I think it can have a calming effect. Thankfully someone linked it over on the huge thread back on the BSN. Now I know this is here I'll be around though not how much worth I'll be at least I can tell people about this thread no? Also as ever thanks for your efforts agthunter. I'll be keeping tabs on this site now too.

Thank you for the very kind comments. My knowledge is a bit dated to be sure, but it seems that the patterns haven't changed much. :) Dropped you a note as well, but I just wanted to reiterate that the real inspiration here is people like yourself who have stepped forward and used their voices to stand for being not only passionate fans, but good customers as well.

Just one voice of many and happy to join it to your own and everyone else's here while we

Concerning that the argument of "Artistic Integrity' might win against all, I have another argument to purpose.

    'Artistic Integrity' vs 'Narrative Coherence'

Do what you want with it.

No doubt the statement yesterday came from EA (and any real future direction on this thing will be at their direction as well). I think a lot of yesterday's release was to 1) avoid a public embarrassment at PAX and 2) try and force this discussion into a more old-style traditional timetable.

I suspect that many folks (I'm certainly one) would like a bit more of that "it will be great, we promise" at this point. If EA is really serious about doing some damage control, they need to come out from under the cone of silence and start building bridges back to the players. If they don't, people will remain, in large part, alienated even with the promised fix. Let's face it, many folks just don't trust the generic "puff" atm from EA given many of the pre-release statements of Mr. Hudson and others on that side of the fence. This really doesn't seem like it would be too hard with a detailed weekly production blog or some such. Hopefully that one PR guy at EA that wasn't lost in the terrible SeaWorld disaster (or the coffee urn filling in for the rest of them) will come up with something like this. EA has a huge socila media access and needs to stop using it solely for PR spin and dedicate some of that resource to a meaningful conversation. In short, as my old PR team chief used to say:

If you mean to have a real discussion with the other side, speak with them and not at them.

Ultimately, if the extended cut is just a bolt on, I suspect it will signal an end to the close relationship EA/Bioware had with many of its most ardent fans.

All that said, good fortune to all those going to PAX today! Stay well, stay civil, stay strong and use your voice! As fans, it is your priviledge. As customers, it is your right!

While clearly they should :) It's a brave new world, and old patterns no longer do good job.

Hey Mods, can we revise the title of this thread so the date reflects the most recent update from atgHunter et al.? Probably a small thing, but if people are just skimming they may not realize there is new info to be had. :)

It's a good question and one well worth answering.

My personal answer would be along the lines of if it's art many people happen to like and it always was art then the artistic integrity arguement holds water because they were never aiming to make money or create a fan base in the first place they just wanted to release a game with a message.

However Mass Effect falls into the category of "it wouldn't have been made unless there was some money for it" this is not a bad thing in and of itself, it after all allowed them to continue making mass effect 2 and mass effect 3 (minus the ending of course). So in which case the player and the developer have to be on the same page on what to expect. In this case we find ourselves reading from a entirely different book compared to the developer and they won't admit that they were wrong.

This was after all not art for art's sake but art for our sake. They didn't build the universe because they wanted to breath life into a new universe and didn't expect to get any money for it. (though I have no doubt that had passion for it) they built it to give us a story that we would enjoy and they could profit off to allow them to continue making the story.

Happy to have found this thread back that was closed on BSN. Didn't now you all migrated. BSN for the moment is to much in emotional turmoil for me.

Gah well done bioware you were given a saving throw and actually failed to use it at PAX.
