Yeah now that the dust has settled it seems absolutely clear that they scrambled to put something different together after the leak. I just don't understand how it could have possibly been what we got. You'd think the obvious thing to do when something like the leak happens would be to delay the bloody game until you're happy with it. That leaves two conclusions: EA wouldn't let Bioware push the release date (the most likely theory) and/or the Bioware heads actually thought that ME3 was ready to ship. Neither conclusion is particularly appealing to me (or leaves me wanting to buy a future product).

No, this is from the November leak, the one that already didn't have Dark Energy, IIRC, but Javik was still the Catalyst.

Other major features include the VS standoff on Thessia (Kai Leng, posing as an Alliance officer, has filled their head with filthy lies about us which make weird sense since THE TRIAL WAS REAL, and therefore we are technically AN ESCAPED CONVICT ROGUE SPECTRE NINJA PIRATE ZOMBIE ROBOT and we have to convince them to turn on him or boss fight with him turns into a tag-team and the VS dies) and Omega being a second mission-giving hubworld, blockaded by Cerberus forces that are ferrying the Collector tech out of the Omega-4 relay. Help them, they start helping you, and giving you missions and troops. Will post more stuff later tonight =)

The sucky part is that everything was AWESOME before the leak ASIDE FROM THE FREAKING ENDING. They changed everything ASIDE FROM THE FREAKING ENDING. Mind = broken.

Having only just returned here, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about but I always felt from my limited understanding of the leaked ending (which was widely panned... much like the demo which was the prologue part) that if anything the extended cut just made it MORE like what was originally leaked. More talking, more explanation but ultimately - still a glowing plot hole bigger than the galaxy.

Regardless, I don't think a company goes "ONOES! THEY KNOW THE ENDING! CHANGE IT! CHANGE IT!" Now, I'm not saying there aren't precedents for that... I know there was a DC storyline where the identity of a villain was widely guessed, causing an editorial decision to change who it was - resulting in none of the rest of the storyline making a lick of sense. I'm just saying, when you're on a project like Mass Effect and someone goofs, you can't afford to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I think release dates are likely Bioware's watch words these days. Just look at the time spent on Dragon Age: Origin vs. Dragon Age 2 and sure, you could say that there was a lot of time spent on working on the whole Dragon Age universe and the lore and milieu, concept art, history, combat dynamics, gameplay and engine... Sure, I'd give you that but Dragon Age 2 got pushed out almost as fast as the dire licensed games that torment the world with their continued existence.

Hell, if EA hadn't pulled the plug on the Mass Effect FPS - it would have been out MONTHS earlier.

As I've said before, don't cry for Bioware because the company that made games for gamers - like KOTOR, Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate 2 and Dragon Age: Origin - it's already dead.

Let us return to our games.

When we arrive on Sanctuary, it still functions as a haven, and Shepard and Co infiltrate its bowels to find out the people processing plant below. Do it right, and you can keep it open as a haven with Oriana in charge. Also, implications that Henry Lawson may be a dick, but he's only working with TIM because he's being blackmailed. Oh, and he dies in any case.

From Ashes played out mostly the same, except Shepard would get put on the spot before the Council afterwards, to answer for "being responsible for the deaths of the colonists there", where the matter of his loyalty to Cerberus is brought up again. Remember, he left Earth with his trial unfinished, he's formally a fugitive! It's a bit out of order, Shepard's replies are below all the accusations.

I don´t understand why they felt the need to change the game. Leaked or not if the game was well developed fans would have bought it. It´s so sad.. I still have my ME3 trailer with the false released date 3-6-2012.:(
I´m so hopeless with Dragon age 3.. I imagine that they will kill the warden, Hawke and mostly everyone with some starchild/darkspawn/templar/mage whatever..

Perhaps a cut type of enemy? I'm yet to encounter any more mentions, but I can go look them up if you wish.

Here we go, literally the ONLY other mention in the datafile I'm cutting up now:

<data>The Illusive Man uses an ability similar to the Pariah - causing Shepard to lose control. The Ilusive Man sits back as he forces Shepard and Anderson to point their weapons at one another.

But there is in another (remember, Sanctuary is still functioning both as a husk factory AND as a "haven" for refugees in this version because Cerberus doesn't fight the Reapers, it BELONGS to the Reapers):

Pariah Reveal: A distant whispering that has been echoing in Shepard's head during his exploration of Sanctuary is now revealed. A hideous new Reaper minion called the Pariah. It seems busy surveying a particular cage full of prisoners. The cage is lowered to the floor, but does not undergo any further processing.

The Pariah finally notices Shepard with a powerful mind blast while teleporting to a nearby ledge allowing its soldiers to attack.

I maintain that the ending wouldn't have been changed because of a leak - I think this is just people trying to give Bioware SOME semblance of dignity. To make this just a little LESS of systemic failure at each stage of the process.

Also, the release date was pushed back - as has been mentioned by myself and others - because of the integration of the multiplayer component (which was tacked on after a Mass Effect FPS was scraped)... so unless I'm missing some crucial piece of evidence - I just don't see them as having made some fundamental change... because there really ISN'T a huge difference (or even a meaningful one) between the leaked ending and the ending we got.

As for Dragon Age 3 - I'll wait for it on a Steam sale. OH! THAT'S RIGHT! EA are such idiots they're trying to push their own digital store. Fuck that noise. Guess I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin or something.

After reading through the last 2 pages, everything I try to write in response comes out as a curse. Instead of the ME3 that would've been deserving of raving reviews (even if the ending would've still sucked), we were saddled with the dumbed down version of it? Why? What happened?

There was more to Grissom Academy, too, if you thought we've forgotten about it.

The fighter damaged a core part of the ship. The integrity of the space-station itself is now weakened, like a submarine beginning to come apart at the seams.

That's right, there was a LOT more talking in the scene, including separately reasoning with Tali whether she should try to convince Gerrel or try to overrule him (including a lot of calling him an idiot); and with Legion to fish for more arguments to use for or against sparing the Geth or destroying the Quarians or establishing peace. Again, too disjointed to form coherent dialogues, sadly.

From what I can tell thus far... This entire script is based around Javik being the Catalyst. THe moment he was removed from that role, EVERYTHING that hinged on the Catalyst being a living being got shifted. So Eden Prime was removed entirely, and with it went the side-plot of Shepard being betrayed and de-SPECTREd by the Citadel Council at Udina's urging. With THAT, Jacob's mission that was ultimately about tracking down TIM and Kai Leng after Thessia became optional and unrelated to the main plot. So instead of "Hmm, Ex-Cerberus can tell us where TIMmy is" it became "I used SPACE MAGIC to track down Kai Leng, SPACE MAGIC, SPACE MAGIC", which is what caused the sharp Deus Ex Machina jump from Thessia to Horizon in the final game.

So it's either all because they wanted to make Javik DLC, or because they didn't think having a living Catalyst would work out and couldn't re-work everything in time. IMHO, they would've still been better off scrapping the Crucible at that point, as the Crucible ITSELF by that point was barely an idea, mentioned in even less frequency than it is in the finished game, and could have easily been replaced with "let's use all these Prothean doodads to actually build some better shinier REAL GUNS instead of wasting time on trying to decode what MAY be plans to what MAY be a weapon that MAY help us kill the Reapers for which we CLEARLY don't have the full set of plans ANYWAY. Grrrrr.

No worries, I'm interested myself. It's very sad that the story makes sense NOW. That pieces fall into place clearing crap up. Why these aren't released as DLC instead of building more new justifications for the idiotic changes they made is beyond my comprehension.

Not quite a shock... that mission is full of plot holes.
The cannons shot on sensors that the stealth could deal with. Those cannons would never proper aim the shuttle. And there are no geth on visual mode controlling those.

I believe Shepard, standing beside the jamming Tower radio Steeeeeve to blow the thing. Wait, what?

Even if the geth took control and shot the AA cannons in visual mode, at that close range when Steeeeeeve is dropping the team, they would have blown the shuttle.

Of course they scrapped a really cool story on that part, after all it's Rannoch. The Pinnacle of Me3, together with Tuchanka.

My guess is that in ten years we will have a ME3 redone with all the original stuff by another company.
