Some of you reading this may be wondering, 'what is wrong with time travel? That is such a silly thing to have an issue with.' Thus, I will explain my issue with time travel.
First. I am sick and tired that it has become used so frequently in television and movies. When in doubt and way to get through story issues or add something new, introduce a new story line involving time travel. Why not try and get creative with your story writing rather than trying to fix things with altering the time line?
Second. The reason I take such issue with the altering of the time line is that it creates a paradox within that universe. For example; person A goes back in time to change an event, they change that event from happening, however they have altered the time line, thus creating a world in which that event never happened, thus there was never a reason for them to go back in time in the first place. Thus, these series of events never occurred, but you can't "rewind" time. The only show thus far that I have seen actually pull of the time travel idea was Eureka. They stated that by their trip back in time it created a new time line different from the one that they had previously been involved in. This I feel is about the only way to really make it work. There are going to be changes and ramifications from the actions conducted in the past.
Third. The consequences for the time travel is never explained or answered within that universe. The reason that prompted me to finally write this down is because I'm watching the new Star Trek movie again and the whole idea that Nero has come back in time and he wants to prevent his home world from being destroyed, but if he is able to do that and prevent his ship and Spock from traveling back in time, then how exactly would this all happen then? I know that there is a discussion that the series of events has been forever altered, but I don't feel as though the ramifications have been completely explored.
I understand that there is also the theory that the event of traveling back in time has always and will always occur become time is occurring at the same time, thus the events will always happen. There is also the theory that by one change in the past will create an infinite series of events, so does that means that all of these new time lines exist within different universes?
I'm sure there are some of you that might read this and are getting your rage face on that I would take such issue with time travel, but honesty it is something that really annoys and frustrates me. If you believe that time travel is perfectly acceptable than I would like to hear your reasons for feeling this way. This has merely just been me expressing some of the frustrations I have relating to this issue. I hope if nothing else you found it amusing that I actually get annoyed and frustrated by such things and made you laugh. The end.
Why I hate time travel
