Time To Take Notice

I'm not so good at typing these things up but here goes...

Some are excited for the next generation of console gaming and as a dude who's been playing videogames on the TV screen rather than the monitor, I don't know. Aside from the Wii U's potential, console gaming next gen seems VERY bleak. You've got Sony, who's completely lost sight of what it was during the PSX and PS2 eras, and Micro$oft and their Live bullshit. On top of that, many rules and policies force most dlc or other perks to be at cost in addition to the lack of a mod community for consoles. This current gen has been the worst by far with mediocrity all around with few exceptions, and Sony and MS' poor excuse for hardware (which in PC terms would translate to 2-3 generations ago before 2006). People had to class action MS in order to even be reimbursed for RRoD, whereas Sony STILL doesn't offer free repairs, valuable reimbursement, or proper fixing of the YLOD.

Add to these the fact that the games in nearly all cases are no longer exclusive as they once were. There's no longer three different takes, only 3 flavors of the same thing. For example: N64 had WWF No Mercy. PSX had WWF Smackdown!. No it's all a port of the same ol' stuff. On another note there's the saturation of sequels, FPS games, and yearly releases rather than a well developed, finely tuned title (though it is comforting to note that Naughty Dog and Rockstar still practice the latter among others).

Last but not least, my biggest gripe with developers and gamers alike; the perversion of DLC. See, back when it was PC only, developers would release things that gave you your money's worth and utilized downloadable content as a way to keep an aging title alive or keep things fresh. Nowadays? It's nearly everywhere. Every title needs it for some reason, and since studios are no longer gaming businesses but rather corporations, everyone wants money. Sadly this is what it's come down to. Day one dlc, paying 15 dollars for 3 maps, 10.99 will get you some new gear and a few cars with reused sounds. On the other side, you've got apologetic dipshits who brown nose this practice and take that 20 dollar unlock everything pack with a smile. Too many of us just take it. With no thought and without question. These types wouldn't know a ripoff if it robbed them at gunpoint while smacking their sister in the face. They buy into lies and deceit, believing those poor billionaire corporations and bourgoise development heads NEED to make that money for their suffering families. I say, wake up. Tell your buddies and pals to know better, open up their eyes and ears to what's going on. If we don't, things will only get worse.
