SPACE MAGIC?

Can someone explain to me how the space magic phrasing came about? I understand that the codex has no explanation for how synthesis essentially changes everyone's DNA, but I always lotted that up to being a big DNA slot machine (plus it sounded funnier to me).

So, if anyone reads this, I'd like to know the fundamentals behind what everyone has been calling space magic! GO!
