Usually when I'm playing a game even if it has alot of tech issues if the story grabs my heart and doesnt let go...well my brain can forgive it. Here's looking at you Fable 2 and 3 doggies. Especially 3's dog which is a GSD and frolics with my Queen alllllll over the place. Very Majestic and for some odd reason soothing.
For example:
My Heart for like over 95% of ME series as a whole:
Please note: The above link has wonderful music but the movie its from was heartbreaking in every sense of the word.
My Shepard and crew grabbed my heart in a mass effect field and ran for the furthest relay!
I guess thats why I've always loved RPGs. I loved exploring new worlds....finding goodies....slaying evil ect ect. But ultimately what makes a game good to me? Sure the setting can help grab me and other things like gameplay but as I think on it....what my main focus or drive would have to be what or who I'm playing as.
What made me play Halo Reach's SP campain 3 times over? Sure Noble 6 was voiced at some parts but s/he was a blank slate you could build from and make your own spartan under all that armor.
Why do I have or had 10 Shepards? RIP 7 of them due to bad save file transfers.
DA Origins
KOTOR 1/2
Skyrim
Fallout 1/2/NV and even 3.
I felt like I was a part of that PC. It just wasnt a pre established character like Jensen, Cole, Nathan Drake, Faith, Jade...ect
As a gamer I like putting alittle of myself into my games. RPGs let me do that on a certain scale. From near total immersion like Fallouts or Skyrim or a selective semi choice one like Shepard or the Warden.
Sure I dont mind well made PC/Avvys to play like Faith, Alan Wake, Issac from Dead Space or our Protagonists from the Walking Dead Series, of which I dont consider Lee the sole winner in that book.I guess I love it when games hit you on a personal level. RPGs make it easier to attach yourself to the setting and world due to Self Insertion as the main PC and thats why I hope more genres pull from the "create a PC" category.
At this point with all the tech available I'd like to see more variety in other places. I got my eyes on you Borderlands 2. Please do better in the female protagonist selection department this time. I want to be a crazy ninja lady with a techno sword.
Heart vs Brain vs My Gaming Habits.
