"Aashe De Winter?" She asked, letting out a laugh. "Oh come on... that name just sounds made up!" She was reading over the life and history of the woman she was about to become. She'd been given instructions to memorize the history given to her, and then destroy the datapads. In her hands was her new life, a new identity, new bank accounts, identification numbers, driving history, and apartment. Everything a person needed to completely disappear from their past.
The Volus to whom she was speaking took in a gasped breath, and sighed to her. "It is a made up name. It's from an old vid about a Vampire Queen, from your world. I thought you would appreciate it."
"Aashe..." She shook her head, still smirking. "Well, I suppose there are worse things than people assuming I'm going under a pseudonym. And... is this 30 years of living history? Bank accounts and everything? How did you manage that?"
"We generate fake birth certificates, and pay to have history written for the fake child. We keep all types of fake identifications this way, and that's why we're able to match identifications so well with their new owners. It's also why we're so expensive."
"It's worth the cost." She said. At this point in her life, her hair was a golden blonde, falling in perfect ringlet curls around her face and down her back. Her eyes were the blue of a deep ocean, though her hair color had been changed, her eyes had remained - to that point - the same as when she was born. She figured it was high time to change that. With a name like Aashe DeWinter - she was thinking black hair, and grey eyes.
"Do you have any further questions, Aashe?" Her Volus contact asked her.
"I'll need a money launderer." She said, looking up from the file in her hands and toward her contact.
"Of course. My people will contact you within the week, is that agreeable?"
"Perfectly." The Girl said, sliding the datapads under her arm, and holding a hand out to the Volus. "Well, it's been a pleasure doing business with you, my nameless friend."
"And you, Aashe De Winter." He said, he took a step forward, shaking her hand somewhat awkwardly. It was not a common Volus custom. She turned to leave, eager to see about buying a ship. "Ah, Aashe - may I ask you a personal question, before you go?"
She turned in midstep, and shrugged once, looking over her shoulder at him. "Sure."
"Why are you doing this? As I understand it, you have everything you could ever want." He asked.
The Girl thought about her answer for a moment, no one would ever really understand her position. He wasn't wrong, after all - a snap of her fingers, and she could have anything she wanted, go anywhere she wanted to go. But... it wasn't enough...
"You have everything, and still the world holds no joy; and yet you insist on making fun of those who would see it for its possibilities." She quoted airily from one of her favorite vids, focusing her attention back on the Volus, she said, "I have everything, my nameless friend... but the galaxy holds no joy for me. I see the same shallow people making the same shallow decisions, they don't see me - or what I can do, they value me based on my dowry, and the amount of money I already have. There's no one to be friends with. They're all mindless sycophants and yes men."
"I can't imagine that ever getting tiring." The Volus mused.
"Well, then - you can have it. I hear they have an opening." The Girl grinned, and waved.
She turned out of the alley and started down the street. They'd never find her now. She'd been on the run for over a decade, but what the Volus had sold her was a complete new history - not just a forged license and security number. Everything was in place. With the new identification, she'd be able to buy herself a reasonable starship. Something more space worthy than the 2 person speeder she had now.
She glanced back at her datapad again, memorizing the address of Aashe De Winter's apartment. It was in the Presidium Commons, of course... It'd be the best place to make any additional plans. She tried the name on again, whispering to herself, too low to be heard over the passing taxis and speeders. "Aashe De Winter... My name is Aashe De Winter... and you are?"
